What game engines are available with a proven track record of published games?

Details that I think are important:

  • What platforms do they target? (Windows, Mac, Linux, Flash, Web (other than Flash), iPhone, Android, Xbox, PS3 and Wii)
  • Which one is the least expensive?
  • What languages do you work with them in?

On behalf of cocos2d iPhone i would like to mention: cocos2d iPhone.

Supports iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Is 2D only but you can still use OpenGL for anything you want as well as Cocoa Touch UI. It's free and written in Objective-C. It also includes some of the more popular APIs like box2d and chipmunk for physics and AdMob for ads. There are good tutorials for integrating it with Facebook, Twitter, OpenFeint and what not.

Unity is a well known game engine. It supports Windows, Mac, Wii, iPhone and even Web.

Price: There are two versions, the free and the pro. The pro starts at 1200$ and can go up to 2900 depending on the components you select.

It consists of it's own editor and supports scripting language, asset import etc. Full set of features are available here.

Torque engine is popular as well (won a game engine award). Depending on your needs, there is a Torque engine for Windows, iPhone, XBOX360 and Wii.

Prices depend on the platform and other options (such as source code!).
