Hi

I've been reading through The Light Racer 3D Development Journal by Robert Green, which details a lot of the steps he went through to redesign his Light Racer Game for Android. There's lots of good stuff including some code snippets about how to do various things, and how to organise things.

Has anybody else come across any similar websites, or online resources?

Cheers

Amos

First off, what is this business?

sorry, new users can only post a maximum of one hyperlink

I apologize for the copy n paste links, but I guess I'm too new to be trusted :)

Many indie game developers keep journals containing valuable design and tech insight. A few of my favorites are:

There are also some more curated resources, meant for reference or as tutorials:

  • Game Programming Patterns: A work in progress, but well written and useful for solving common problems encountered in game design.
  • GameDev.net Beginner's Reference: This is a good place to go if you're brand new. It helps talk you through finding tools, choosing languages, and then drops you off in some beginner tutorials.
  • Gamasutra Programming Features: Gamasutra's tagline is "The Art & Business of Making Games." They cover the whole spectrum including programming, design, art, and audio. There are some good higher level tutorials, as well as postmortems by career game programmers discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the approaches they took when making big budget games.
  • Gamasutra Design Features: This is a direct link to Gamasutra's design page.

I hope these help!

Some good links there, cheers. I've seen the Gamedev stuff and the Gamasutra stuff before, although I'd forgotten about the Gamedev developer blogs. You may be able to post more links now that your reputation is higher (you can upvote now by the way). – Amos Feb 20 at 22:14
Welcome trybaj and sorry about the link limit. It is to help with spammers. The limit on links goes away after you've participated for just a little while. – MrPhil Feb 21 at 21:09
I reformatted the links for you :) I up voted to referencing Wolfire. I've found their posts very useful. – MrPhil Feb 21 at 21:12
